Demonstrate proficiency in digital copyright, resource documentation and Creative Commons licensing [ISTE 3b, 3c]
This artifact is a four minute video explaining copyright Fair Use its uses in education. I added a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license to the video to protect and allow sharing of this video. All items sourced from the internet include in-text citation and a full bibliography in the end.
I have for a long time found the overlap of copyright and educational use fascinating. Many times in my career, a teacher has asked for my team to digitize a resource or allow access to a video, to which we respond with these questions of copyright. This was especially true during the pandemic, where the line between performance rights, video synchronization rights, and the face-to-face teaching exemption, became increasingly grey. I can take this video and share it with my school district's faculty in the coming school year as a very fast refresher on how to use content.

Identify online resources, apps and other tools that can be incorporated into their classroom / practice [ISTE 1b, 2c, 5c]
Wakelet - Using Digital Tools Responsibly
ISTE Standard for Educators 2.2.c states "Educators model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning." This artifact provided the framework for me to identify, curate, and then model different strategies and sources for staff and students who need to use digital tools responsibly. In addition, this assignment allowed me to try a new tool (Wakelet) that I can later show educators how to use in their classes.
Of all the assignments in this course, I think this was the most challenging for me being outside the classroom. I found it difficult to find enough resources initially to meet the assignment requirements. I have tried to make every assignment relevant to me, even in my current role as a technology analyst. I used that lens of technology to find content I felt would be helpful to any educator or administrator reviewing this Wakelet.
● Demonstrate proficiency using online search portals [ISTE 2c, 3b]
● Demonstrate proficiency using online curation tools [ISTE 2c, 3b]
● Demonstrate proficiency in evaluating the reliability and usefulness of information [ISTE 2c, 3b]
This artifact represents the course learning outcomes in several ways. This assignment required me to move past a simple Google search to find scholarly resources and current resources from relevant experts. The resources themselves are also curated to closely match the identified topics and objectives.
For me, it was important in this assignment to find high quality content that I could later use in my masters' thesis. My thesis ultimately went in a different direction. However, this assignment reminded me the importance in a specific, targeted objective even when beginning research.
